Heavy T-Shirts – Get Your Money’s Worth

When You Want To Get Your Money’s Worth From A T-Shirt

Most people have fallen into the trap of believing that buying a T-shirt means that it will last a few months before it needs to be thrown out. If you put a lot of wear and tear onto your T-shirts this is indeed what you can expect if you buy lightweight shirts. The material in light T-shirts is too thin to withstand heavy handling, and this includes frequent washings.

If you engage in a lot of sports and enjoy wearing T-shirts to play them, you’ll want something that will last. If you’re a boxer in the ring, for example, and are putting on your Everlast boxing gloves, you won’t know whether your T-shirt will get you through the entire round if it is one of those worn down lightweight versions. Heavyweight T-shirts aren’t only for Heavyweightheavy weights however, since lightweights wearing boxing gloves need a T-shirt that can stand up as well!

If you’re not a person that takes on a lot of activity and you simply wear T-shirts around because they are the most comfortable thing you could possibly put on, you’ll still want to invest in heavy T-shirts. These shirts are able to endure frequent washings so that you can get years of wear from them. Every time you wash a lightweight Tee you don’t know if you’ll be retrieving a shirt with a hole in it or have the confidence to run it through the dryer knowing that you’ll pull out a T-shirt that is still intact and holding its shape well.

Vintage Aloha Collections

When it comes to collecting vintage clothing, it seems that women outnumber men collectors by a long shot. Although I have not researched the exact statistics, you can see the Internet sites that pay homage to women’s vintage wear are plentiful. Although the numbers may not be as explosive, men can appreciate a classic pair of Levi’s 501’s or a great leather bomber jacket from days of old.
A common collection made by men is the vintage Aloha shirt. The price can be pretty steep but when you find that Aloha Attirerare Royal Hawaiian print from the 1940’s, the price takes a back seat.

In the 1920’s and 30’s the brightly colored aloha shirts that we think of today started to become popular. The idea of the casual shirt being worn on the outside, (not tucked into the pants) was pretty radical. The designs have gone from solid color button-down shirts with mono-chrome embroidery to the vivid colored pictorials with deep symbolic significance. There are tribal graphics and ocean illustrations, vintage cars, and charming hula dancers. The picturesque scenery and tendency to “talk story” found in the art of Aloha shirts throughout the ages has made them conversational pieces of art.

There have been many books written that attempt to chronicle the lineage of the Hawaiian Apparel explosion but not all are accurate. Aloha ShirtsOne book I have found, “Aloha Attire: Hawaiian Dress in the Twentieth Century,” was published by Schiffer in 1999 and covers the historical account of Hawaiian apparel. There is another book called “The Art of the Aloha Shirt” that has some great images. For those of you who want to check out the history and see if any of your collector’s items appear in the book, these are a good bet.

As collections go, the Hawaiian Aloha shirt is a valuable and interesting starting point. When asked if they are collectable, Linda Arthur, an authority on the subject, replied, “They’re very collectible. Some of the early Kamehameha designs from the late ’30s into the ’40s are very collectible. . . And any print that’s been in a movie is collectible.”

So get out there to the vintage shops, swap meets and on ebay to see if you can locate that hidden gem. Let us know how your collection is growing . . .

Collecting Fire King Glassware

Why do people spend their time collecting? Most of us are compelled to collect, we are hunter/gatherers. Today let’s talk about the vintage Fire-King glassware collection and those who seek it out.
These antique glass collectibles were produced between 1942 and 1976 Jade-ite Fire King Mug with D-shape handlein the USA.They were affordable pieces that could be paired easily and nicely with other items in your kitchen with styles ranging from simple restaurant plain to opaque white to fancy florals and bright geometric shapes.
This collection remains affordable today mostly due to the plentiful supply. It also appeals deeply to our nature as collectors. As individuals, we collect things from the past that will have some relevance or significance to our lives or to the lives of someone close to us.

The Heart of a Collector

What is in the heart of a collector? A true collector can be known to accumulate any number of things ranging from classic cars all the way down to old Pez dispensers. Collecting is a love or passion for something; some will go as far as calling it an obsession.
A vintage car collector has a number of reasons for his love of a certain car or line of cars which can make his obsession unique from others. One automobile enthusiast might love a nice American made muscle car, while another prefers a foreign classic roadster. One could speculate that both collectors agree on the initial motive for being drawn to their love; the visual aesthetics. The curves, the chrome and smooth paint jobs 1963 Plymouth Valiant - A Collector's dreamare all a part of what initially turned their heads. Some car aficionados couldn’t care less about the engine, they just love the way it looks. Others look for the function and reliability of the machine. Either way, a vintage car is a piece of art.
When we make our t-shirts we think of the process in a similar way. The first glance is always extremely critical so we keep it fresh with unique new art. Then, upon further inspection; when you pick up our heavy t-shirt, you can tell that it is not like other shirts. Our 100% American made heavy tee is all about function. Our thicker woven cotton thread confirms the high quality of the t-shirt and contributes to it lasting for many years to come. They become softer with a little age and each shirt slowly becomes like an old friend. There are guys that have collected this tee over several different brands throughout the decades. Their closets have sections that enclose the different categories of these precious collectables. One area will protect those shirts that should no longer be worn; another that houses the limited edition variety. Maybe there is one that you received as a gift to commemorate the vacation of a lifetime or an amazing surf contest that you attended.
Ultimately, it is the look that draws you in first but the time honored, quality shirts that have proven fit and function makes for an item worth collecting.

Buy Products Made In America

We just finished up the biggest shopping season of 2011 and now are optimistically headed into a brand new year. Did you concentrate on buying gifts for family and friends that were produced in the USA? The statistics are alarming – reporting that approximately 98% of the clothing we buy is made overseas.

You may have started to hearMens t-shirts made in America of the challenges being made nation wide to buy American. This article in the San Clemente Journal talks about a recent segment on World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer that challenges its viewers to furnish their homes with products that are made in the USA. The family was successful with most of the items but had a difficult time finding a microwave oven made here. They ended up compromising and getting a unit that was assembled here

San Clemente Triton Football

The San Clemente Tritons football team has made history this season, and coaches say their success was rooted in the players’ history. Coach Jon Hamro noted that these players grew up in the sport and grew up playing on the same Pop Warner football team together as well. They made it to the what is known as the Super Bowl of Pop Warner called the Orange Bowl and in 2008, their eighth grade year, they won the game.
This season the Triton’s record was 12-1 which has led them all the way up the ladder to the CIF championship game. San Clemente will face Santa Margarita in the final on Dec. 10 (this Saturday) at Angel Stadium.

The Last time this team played in the championship game was in 1979, a team on which coach Hamro played. Make the effort to come on out this Saturday to support your community and our local high school team. You could be watching history in the making!

Ghost Wave – Buy the Book

A new book has arrived on the shelves and will especially interest those of us who love the ocean and anything to do with it. “Ghost Wave: The Discovery of Cortes Bank and the Biggest Wave on Earth” by Chris Dixon.

The book informs us about the infamous and dangerous seamount located about 100 miles off the southern California coast, that creates some of the world’s biggest and most mystical waves. The title – “Ghost Wave” perfectly describes Buy the book: Ghost Wavethis terrifying wave. Chris Dixon describes the wave as “a ghost wave that was said to appear, a wave of massive proportions that came out of nowhere, rose like a monster and then slid back into the depths without a sign of its passing.” George Hulse, a local pro surfer at the time who lives here in San Clemente, was the first to ride the wave back in 1990.  George along with Bill Sharp, Sam George and photographer, Larry Moore took off from Newport Harbor in a 29ft boat for a secret surf mission.  They had heard that it was possible that the bank had potential for waking up and they wanted to witness it.

There have been many surfers over the years who have conquered the enormous wave. Among the most recent is San Clemente’s Greg Long who has ridden the break out there on days when the waves are reported as being over 100 ft.

Made in the USA

I actually received this little story via email this week. Thought I would go ahead and repeat it although I haven’t completely confirmed the author. Still, it is worth considering. . .
———————————
This probably sounds crazy, but just yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn’t want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA. Heavy t-shirts made in the USAThey are just as good. Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA and they were $3.00 cheaper. We are being brain washed that everything that comes from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. That is also why I don’t buy cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are expensive. I buy them at Dollar Tree….50 cents each and made in USA.
